Visit the festival's 9th edition of the Photo Festival Peoples & Nature from June 1st 2012 .
An open-air gallery...
The Photo Festival Peoples and Nature has become a must in La Gacilly .
From the first weekend of June to the last weekend of September, La Gacilly celebrates photography while the heart of Brittany beats to the pulse of the planet. The international world of photography comes together in the streets of the village, displaying powerful and sensitive works which stimulate and enchant. Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Sebastiao Salgado, Niels Udo have all contriubted to this initiative, exhibiting their most beautiful 'shots' in life-size format in this ephemeral gallery. A major event for photographers the world over, funded in part by the Yves Rocher Foundation, this open-air festival has already contributed to greater awareness of the interconnectedness of Nature and Man .
Photo Festival Peoples and Nature 2011
The 8th Edition of the Photo Festival Peoples and Nature in La Gacilly closes. 230 000 visitors have nce again appreciated the quality of the exhibition .
2011 was declared « International Year of the Forest » by the General Assembly of the United Nations .
For its 8th edition, the Photo Festival Peoples and Nature in la Gacilly gave top billing to photographers whose work focuses on the dangers of losing this natural heritage of our planet Earth. Each year 13 million hectares of forest disappears, which one might describe as lung cancer on the planetary scale. Entire peoples, even whole civilizations have vanished or continue to suffer for having mismanaged their plant environment. Trees are a source of life. They produce oxygen, their roots fix the soil, retain and purify water, their leaves fertilize the soil and their branches restrain the wind. The Earth without trees would be an Earth without life. Today, forest habitat represents 50% of all the plant and animal biodiversity of the planet. And this life is disappearing at the same rate that our woodlands are vanishing .
